Item Description
Hematite is one of the most well known metallic species for collectors, and the specimens from Itabira, Brazil are some of the best quality examples from any locality outside of the Swiss Alps. Most people are familiar with the famous "iron roses" of Hematite, but this piece hosts very attractive and impressive, sharp, notably well-formed, rhombic (pseudo-cubic) crystals of silvery-grey metallic Hematite. It's not the typical form that people associate with this locality or the species in general. It's a beautiful toenail specimen with well-defined individual crystals, which is certainly not common for Hematite. The largest crystal measures 1.5 cm on edge. Minor damage, but overall a showy and beautiful piece of this now hard to find material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3461-{2}). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
