Item Description

What an attractive hand sized small cabinet display specimen from upstate New York. This iron mine is not known for producing fine quality specimens per se, but I would make the argument that this piece is certainly display worthy and very eye catching. It features one predominant "iron rose" on the side of the specimen, surrounded by sharp, thin, bladed metallic hexaongal crystals of Hematite with minor iron and Quatz on gneiss matrix. Minor rough edges keep it from being 100% perfect, but if you collect New York minerals, worldwide Hematites or simply unique U.S. display pieces, don't miss out on this one. It's good for the locality and certainly worth picking up. This isn't just another "black rock", it's a nice Hematite. A worthwhile specimen of this classic material from the collection of the noted and now deceased Colorado geologist, Allen Heyl (for whom the phosphate mineral Aheylite was named).
