Hematite (doubly-terminated) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

This piece is a wonderful large thumbnail / toenail sized specmen of the famous and fine quality Hematites from the N'Chwaning Mines. The label states the piece is from the "N'Chwaning Mine", but since there are a few of them, we're leaving it simply as "N'Chwaning Mines". The Hematites found here are among the best examples of the species in the world, and the best pieces are on par with anything you'll from either Switzerland, Brazil or anywhere else in the world. This piece features several fine quality, very sharp, highly lustrous (splendent), steel-grey colored prismatic trigonal crystals measuring up to 2.3 cm intergrown to form a "star burst"-like shape with crystals flaring in all directions. Very minor matrix can be seen on the back, and the display side is virtually damage free. The best aspect of the piece for me is the fact that the largest crystal is actually doubly-terminated, which is hard to find in this material. It's important to note that these pieces are hard to photograph, but this one is impressive in person. Priced in our inventory at $500. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1437).
