Item Description

The Pea Ridge Mine was the last operating underground iron mine in the United States, closing in 2001. Mineral specimens are uncommon, in general, and fine fluorite combination pieces, such as this are rare. Sharp, pretty lavender fluorite cubes to 1.8 cm are preferentially coated with sparkly microcrystalline to matte-finish botryoids of hematite. A few tiny, golden chalcopyrites are a nice accent. This is a fine, two-sided crust, as the back is composed solidly of small fluorite cubes, some hematite coated. Just a bit of bruising is noted on the front. Choice and rare material from the George Feist Collection.
