Item Description
The classic Hematites from the Isle of Elba are some of the most revered examples of the species ever found. This gorgeous thumbnail is a high quality "rose"-like specimen featuring very sharp, highly lustrous (splendent), metallic, slightly iridescent blades of Hematite measuring up to 1.2 cm across free of matrix. The crystals glisten in the light, and most of them are damage free. Good thumbnails of this material are hard to find, and this piece would make a fine addition to any suite of metallic minerals or Italian minerals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3797). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
