Item Description
Elba Hematites are classics and some of the most revered examples of the species ever found. This small cabinet features incredibly sharp, highly lustrous (splendent), metallic, slightly iridescent crystals of Hematite measuring up to 3.2 cm across partially covered by small iron-bearing Quartz crystals free of matrix. The main crystal is beautiful with it's broad smooth faces and mirror-like luster. There are a few small nicks, so the piece is not 100% pristine, (it's also contacted on the base where it was removed from the pocket wall), but it's still very good quality and eye-catching. We had this one priced at $850 in the inventory. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3518). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
