Item Description
A heavy specimen of classic "iron ore" hematite from the mines that fueled the Industrial Revolution - literally. This is a form of rounded, or mammillary growth hematite, that is famous from several of the old iron mines of England. You can see some small traces of internal zoning and partitions in the surface pattern. Sometimes these "sections" break off and form "horse tooth" growths, as the miners called them. A big, showy specimen at about 1200 grams mass, this has a beautiful display face. While they go back generally to the 1800s (as we assume this to have been), some were also admittedly found into the mid 1900s - but not more recently. So it is somewhat antique, either way.
