Hematite

Item Description

This elongated form of hematite, sometimes known as "horse teeth," "needles," or other nicknames by miners in different countries, turns up rarely in locations with huge iron deposits and old mining industries such as England's iron country; and in Minnesota's iron mines. However, we very rarely see them from smaller mines and older locations - presumably because they are both rare, and easily carried to a smelter for ore. This elegant single, curving specimen is a surprise, coming from a smaller iron district in the modern Czech Republic. It is complete all around. It comes on a custom lucite base. If it were from old England, we would value it $1500-2000, so the question is whether it is worth more or less for being from such an interesting location as well!
