Item Description
Helvite is an uncommon manganese, beryllium silicate. It is only rarely found from Tongbei, China, which has become justly famous for its spessartine. Helvite is rarely found in fine combination specimens, such as this. Sharp, lustrous, tetragonal helvites to 1.7 cm, with brown color-zoning and partially gemmy areas are attractively sprinkled with gem spessartines to 3 mm. Adding much panache is the sharp, 1.5 cm, chlorite-coated, muscovite book at one end of the piece. This striking and fine combo displays well from several views. Valued at $500 for quality and rarity of association. We have JUST heard, that this locale is now officially closed. So the price will go up on fine quality specimens.
