Helvine (rare for the locality)

The famous Wushan Spessartine Mine has produced some of the most iconic specimens from any locality in China, but there are a handful of additional species from this mine that are sought after by collectors, including Helvine. Some of the most robust and eye-catching crystals of this rare beryllium manganese silicate come from the Wushan Mine. This piece features a sharp, well-formed, golden-orange colored modified tetrahedral crystal of Helvine measuring 1.1 cm across associated with minor greenish-grey colored groups of Muscovite plus Smoky Quartz on beige Microcline matrix. Unfortunately there is a much larger (though incomplete) Helvine crystal on the specimen that measures a whopping 2.7 cm across. Were it fully crystallized, it would be one of the largest single crystals of Helvine I've ever seen from any locality. With that said, this piece is still a very good representative specimen of this hard to find material. Very little comes out of this locality these days, so don't pass up the chance to get your hands on one of these excellent Helvine specimens for a great price.
