Item Description
It is not common to find Beryl crystals from this area on the market, let alone a crystal of such impressive color and quality! This miniature is a rarely seen yellow Beryl crystal (Heliodor) which is labeled as only coming from "Coahuila, Riverside Co., California". Clearly it is from the Cahuilla District, but since no specific locality was given, it's hard to say where it might be from. If anybody out there has information as to the specific / exact locality (our guess is that it's most likely the Audrey Lynn Mine, the Juan Diego #1 Mine, or the Fano Mine), please let us know. What really makes this crystal special is the fact that the golden color is RICH and SATURATED along with the fact that the crystal itself is notably sharp, well-formed (not distorted or terribly etched), highly lustrous and even gemmy in areas! Not only are there small patches of actual GEM GRADE Heliodor, but it's the color itself that makes this a significant piece, since most of the Beryl crystals I've seen from this area are a blue shade. There is area on the termination which is contacted, and the base of the crystal is not complete, but despite that roughness, the piece is still in very good condition. If you are familiar with Beryls from this area, you know how hard it is to get your hands on a Heliodor with such sharp, defined, lustrous faces and a strong golden color. It's rather difficult to put a fair market value on a piece such as this, but I would easily see it sell for over 4-figures to a big fan of Beryls, pegmatite minerals or specimens from California. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4376). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
