Item Description
A notably rare specimen of Hedyphane (a rare member of the Apatite Group) along with Berzeliite (a rare arsenate species) from the prestigious Långban Mine in Sweden, which happens to be the type locality for BOTH species. It should be noted that there are over 300 minerals found at this locality, and they are some of the most distinctive examples of their respective species ever found. This piece features white massive Hedyphane associated with soft yellow colored crystals of Berzeliite in dense black matrix, along with dark orange translucent blades of Clinochlore (var: Pennine). I will say that typically Clinochlore occurs in green colored crystals, but certain chromophores can really change the color, as is the case with the rich purple hues seen in chromium-bearing Clinochlore ("Kammererite") or the rare manganese-bearing examples from Långban. The Hedyphane fluoresces a strong red-orange color under SW UV light. Rare classic material and certainly desirable for anyone who collects species from the type locality.
From the collection of the beloved mineral dealer and collector Rock H. Currier (1940-2015) who was the long-time owner of Jewel Tunnel Imports (named after the large open vugs in basalt in India which were often filled with crystals). Collection #9392. The piece was originally in the collection of Dick Hauck.
Rock travelled the world in search of mineral specimens, and built and impressive collection over his lifetime. He was one of the more colorful and unforgettable figures in the mineral world.
