Hedenbergite with Apophyllite (rare combo)

Item Description

Unusual form and rich color on this very robust, sharp, blocky hedenbergite crystal from the now-famous, remote mineral deposits of the Chifeng district in Northern China. The crystal is mostly jet-black with typical streaks and zones of green. The highly lustrous frontal prism face is dramatically enhanced by the rectangular, stepped-growth hillocks. A RARE combination, as the sharp, matte luster termination is mostly covered with glassy, colorless apophyllite crystals. Most hedenbergite specimens from here have a tapered prismatic look with grayish-green color. Contacts are noted on the back and base, which also included sections of orange-red grossular garnets. A highly unusual and rare combination from the deposit, the country, and on a worldwide basis. The fact is, these are WORLD CLASS Hedenbergites from a new modern find, that simply eclipse most previous finds.
