Item Description

Beautiful rich blue, tiny gemmy Hauyne crystals are sprinkled on the vesicular pumice thumbnail matrix. Numerous localities in the famous Laach Lake Volcanic Complex area produce very fine Hauyne specimens, a Sodalite Group species. Famous Lapis Lazuli from Afghanistan is actually Hauyne. The matrix also hosts numerous complementary contrasting glassy Sanidine crystals, a Feldspar Group species. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2079 and acquired from Scott Williams in the early 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Classic combination material from the volcanic Eifel Mountains.
