Sculptural, aesthetic and rich small cabinet lazurite from the historic Type Locality. The classic ultramarine-blue moderately lustrous sharp dodecahedrons are dominated by the impressive large 2.5 cm textbook crystal right in the middle. It is dramatically displayed, and very sharp. All of the crystals in this artistic cluster are pristine. The matrix is RARE for the locale calcite rhombs on granular calcite. Nearly all lazurites are set on marble matrix from here. Lazurite is a variety of Hauyne, both members of the Sodalite Group. This ancient locale has been mined for thousands of years. There is no forsterite (peridot) on the piece. Ex Ed David Collection. Ed was Science Advisor to President Nixon and assemble several world-class collections before passing away in 2017. A classic, very fine and rich example of the species from the famous locale, valued $2000-ish. . Comes with a custom-made and engraved lucite base valued at $175, for free.
