Item Description
A fine quality sculptural block of rich, royal-blue lazurite. Lazurite is a variety of hauyne, a member of the Sodalite Group. It has been mined and carved as a decorative stone since ancient times and this piece is from the famous Type Locality at Sar-e-Sang, Afghanistan. Dense and excellent carving grade lazurite with a thin marble rind at the base. 219 grams mass. Ex David Burgess Collection, for whom Burgessite is named.
