Item Description
A remarkable, textbook crystal of hauyne that is large for the species, with individual faces to just over 3 cm and overall 5 cm across. It is perched dramatically in contrasting matrix of marble with small crystals of white nepheline in association. This large and sharp crystal of hauyne would often be mislabelled or misidentified as sodalite or perhaps lapis. All of Dr. Woodside's specimens of this material were confirmed by analysis as documented in his extensive 2014 article in the Mineralogical Record. Fluorescent in Longwave UV. This was x-rayed by Malcolm Back at the ROM but it still has hauyne fluorescence.
