Item Description

Significant plate of lustrous, jet-black Hausmannite crystals from the TYPE LOCALITY in Ilmenau, Germany. Many of the well-formed crystals average 1-2 mm, with the larger, flat-lying, and probably cleaved crystals reaching 7 mm. The sub-metallic luster is excellent, and the Hausmannites are plentiful across the face of this very large, small cabinet specimen. Certainly at least two centuries old, this vintage and meaningful specimen has great provenance, having been in the collections of Dr. Samuel Ashmead, William S. Vaux, the Philadelphia Academy of Sciences, and later of Chris Stefano.
