Hausmannite replacing Manganite

Item Description

One of the great classics from Germany are certainly Ilfeld Manganites (or pseudomorphs after Manganite). This is rare and fine, old-time miniature pseudomorph from the famous Ilfeld area. Lustrous, gray Hausmannite has replaced prismatic Manganite crystals to creat this attractive display specimen. Uncommon and excellent classic material from this locality. These old pieces came out in about 1865-1890 (per the excellent 2010 Ilfeld article in The Mineralogical Record). The largest crystal measures 1.7 cm.
