Item Description
A gorgeous and scultural specimen consisting of sharp, lustrous, black pseudo-octahedral (bipyramdial tetragonal) "pagoda"-like crystals of Hausmannite measuring up to 1.7 cm on orange-pink Andradite (originally labeled as Grossular) from the famous Kalahari manganese field. These are some of the best Hausmannites in the world, and good pieces like this are not easy to find on the market. More than just a black rock, this is an attractive display specimen of this fairly hard to find manganese oxide. Valued at $500. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12609). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A beautiful and attractive old-timer from this famous district.
