Item Description
A very hard to find antique Hausmannite specimen from "Silberbach" (according to the labels) which is near the classic manganese-producing district of Ilfeld. This piece features a crystallized vug or seam filled with very sharp, lustrous, jet black Hausmannite crystals measuring up to 7 mm on Barite matrix. Great quality, despite the smaller size of the crystals. If you collect manganese minerals or hard to find German specimens, don't miss out on this near 100 year old specimen of this elusive material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2471) with a label from Dr. F. Krantz of Bonn, Germany that states it was collected in 1919! Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
