A wonderful large miniature /small cabinet specimen featuring a fine quality sculptural group of sharp, jet-black, pyramidal tetragonal Hausmannite crystals measuring up to 1.2 cm. The piece is essentially solid Hausmannite, there is no matrix underneath, and the only associated mineral is a bit of white Calcite crystals. The wonderful luster of the Hausmannite crystals allows them to sparkle even in medium lighting, and the desirable crystal form makes for an excellent specimen by any standard. Hausmannite may not get the attention is deserves, as this fairly well-known manganese oxide has been known for 200+ years, but it's important to stress that the world’s finest examples of this species come from the Kalahari Manganese Field. This specimen would make a very worthwhile addition to any collection. Originally priced in the inventory at $850. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016), with an accompanying label from noted rarities dealer, Josef Vajdak. David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
