Item Description

Large, top-notch specimen consisting of sharp Hausmannite crystals sprinkled with, and on, pink DATOLITE crystals. As far as I have been told, this is a rare, and I think unique, combination found only in one pocket. The Hausmannites are razor-sharp tetragonal pyramids, with the complex octahedrons up to 2.2 cm on edge, with the smaller pyramids that make them up being about .5 cm on edge. Many of these smaller pyramids retain their individuality, and show beautifully. The luster is superb. The Datolite crystals have a wonderful pink color, and the larger crystals along the back side are particularly gemmy. The largest of these extends over 1 cm. This is one of the finest combination piece I have seen of these two species - great aesthetics, color contrast, and size taken together. Charlie seems to have gotten much of the find and stashed them. This is one of the nicer ones we obtained in the collection and it was valued around $1200-1500 in the collection purchase we made in 2007. This remains a superb, an dunique pocket to this day. The hausmannite is good on its own merits, of course
