Hashemite (incredibly rare) (ex Rich Kosnar Collection)

Item Description

Hashemite is a very rare barium chromate species, only found in a handful of localities around the world, and most notably from a few places in Jordan, where the type locality can be found. In fact, the species is named Hashemite after the Descendants of King Hussein of Jordan (who are descended from Hāshim ibn ‘Abd Manāf). This specimen is the first piece we've ever seen from Daba (Daaba) featuring a drusy layer of sparkling, soft green colored Hashemite with bright yellow chromium-bearing Ettringite on matrix. This is incredibly rare material, and you'd be hard pressed to find another piece of it anywhere on the market today, so if you collect rare minerals, or if you have an affinity for odd chemistry (Hashemite is one of only THREE known minerals with essential barium and chromium in its chemical formula in the world), don't pass this one up. From the collection of Richard Kosnar (1946-2007), well-known mineral dealer and collector from Colorado, and the namesake for the phosphate species, Kosnarite.
