Item Description

the Strontian area of Scotland was the source of some of the finest known crystals of rare zeolite species Harmotome ever found. This historic mining district located near the west coast of Scotland has the distinction of being the type locality for two species that bear the element strontium, which was subsequently named after the region. This attractive small cabinet features many superbly well-crystallized examples of Harmotome measuring up to 7 mm highly lustrous, sharp faces and a stark white hue sitting on matrix. The underside of the specimen features some striated hollow "casts" which are very likely Quartz replacing Anhydrite. A wonderful representation of these beautiful old classics.
