Harmotome and Baryte on Calcite (all fluorescent)

The Corrantee Mine in Scotland has rarely produced Harmotome specimens, so any Harmotome, let alone of this quality, is truly exceptional. The Harmotomes, translucent and white with SUPERB luster, are highly prismatic and terminated, with the largest crystal being 2.1 cm and doubly-terminated. Associated is Baryte, found in both small rhombs and a distinctive, upright 1 cm fan, and Calcite, which comprises an underlying 1.5 cm thick vein. All three fluoresce, with the Harmotome having a shocking (as in surprising) vivid purple, the Calcite a classic and bright reddish-orange, and the Baryte a soft, gentle orange. There are even microcrystals of lustrous Pyrite and matte-black Sphalerite to add sparkle and greater interest to this excellent and large small cabinet piece. This specimen, collected underground, is so atypical for the locality, and an excellent combination specimen, period. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection.
