Harmatome xls on Calcite (fl) on Amethyst

Item Description

Fine, 1.2 cm Harmotome crystal resting on Calcite, itself on Amethyst, from the Setz Quarry in the famous Idar-Oberstein area of Germany. The Harmotome is lustrous, gemmy-to-translucent, and doubly-terminated. The angled sidecars may also represent twinning, which is not unheard of from Setz. The tan Calcite appears to have a second generation of very lustrous and gemmy crystals growing on it, and this second generation is highly fluorescent. The Amethyst has a rich purple color and very good luster. This is certainly one of the best of these combinations I have seen from here, and it was #2134 in Kay's collection. RARE SPECIES for Idar!
