Item Description
Hanksite is an very rare, hexagonal, sulfate carbonate found in lacustrine evaporite deposits. This is a striking, very rare, radial nodule of translucent, sharply terminated crystals. The lustrous, greenish, tapered crystals are up to 4.0 cm. These superbly symmetrical crystals are from the Type Locality - Searles Lake in California. Hanksite is a soluable mineral and most such specimens are coated with mineral oil for protection, as it this piece. If they become dull, recoat with mineral oil for lasting life. Very uncommon in clusters, such as this. Out of sight contacting is noted on the base and back, and has no impact on the frontal display. Ex Al Ordway Collection and self-collected by him on and off over 50 years of living in southern California. Value of such a rarity???
