Hanksite (sharp gemmy crystal)

Item Description

Hanksite was named in 1885 after Henry G. Hanks in recognition of his service as the first man in California to serve as the state mineralogist. This attractive thumbnail is from the type locality for species. A single, sharp, well-formed, GEMMY doubly terminated, translucent "floater" crystal with typical matte luster. This is notably gemmy and nearly transparent in areas. PLEASE NOTE: these crystals can sometimes be coated with mineral oil to preserve them from dehydration in humid environments, as they will dissolve when exposed to water or damp air. It is best to keep thme in a cool, dry environment.
