Item Description

Hambergite is a rare accessory mineral in gem pegmatites and is uncommon in the Shigar Valley. A 3.3 cm, sharply terminated, pearlescent, translucent, prismatic, orthorhombic white crystal is nattily attached to the side of a cluster of intergrown quartz crystals. Hambergite is a beryllium, borate and sharp elongate crystals are known from only a few localities. The large glassy quartz crystal is partially doubly terminated and is partially coated. Complete all-around. Three embedded to included small green elbaites, to 2.1 cm, add pizzazz. The back of the large quartz termination is dinged and contacted and periphery wear is noted. This remains a showy, highly representative and uncommon combinatin example of the species and locale. Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock and valued by Herb at $400 more than five years ago. Older material.
