Item Description

Hambergite is a relatively uncommon beryllium borate species, most often found pegmatite environments. Most of the Hambergite crystals you'll find from this locality are loose singles, and typically etched. This piece is a rare matrix specimen of this elusive material featuring a notably sharp, well-formed, euhedral, textbook, ivory colored, orthorhombic "wedge"-shaped crystal of Hambergite measuring 1.2 cm sitting on the side of a partial, slightly smoky colored Quartz crystal. A few of the faces of the Quartz crystal have some inclusions of pocket clay to create a white "sheen" on the surface. I can probably count the number of matrix Hambergite specimens from this mine that we've offered on one hand, and no Himalaya Mine collection is complete without one of these rare and elusive treasures. From the collection of Bill Larson of Fallbrook, California. Bill is a well-known gem and mineral dealer as well as a miner and collector. Bill is synonymous with minerals of San Diego County, and owned and operated famous mines such as the Stewart Lithia, the Tourmaline Queen, the Pala Chief and the Himalaya, producing some of the most iconic mineral specimens to come out of the area during the 1970s-1980s.
