Item Description

The Malkhan Pegmatite is famous for producing some of the most iconic and beautiful "Rubellite" Tourmaline crystals from any world locality. For several years now, this area has been actively mined and good specimens have found their way across the mineral collecting world. While the Tourmalines are the most well-known minerals from this locality, there are lots of rarities and unusual species found around Malkhan. This particular specimen is one of the best Hambergite crystals that we've had to offer from Malkhan. It's a fine quality, sharp, lustrous, ivory-esque, thin, prismatic crystal, free of matrix. It's one of the largest individual crystals we've had from the locality, and it's nearly doubly-terminated to boot. Additionally there is a partial coverage of tiny white crystals on the back of the Hambergite that I believe could be Stilbite(?), but it's difficult to say for certain. They don't have the right luster or habit for Albite, and Stilbite has been reported from Malkhan, so it's certainly possible. A very fine quality and hard to find example of this uncommon beryllium borate. From the collection of Shields Flynn.
