Item Description

An incredibly hard to find thumbnail sized specimen of chalky white Hambergite from The Rangkul Pegmatite Field in Tajikistan. The label states the locality is "Lake Rankul", but this is easily forgivable as accurate locality data was not readily available when the piece made its way to the US market. This crystal is sharp and well-formed, with a thin tabular habit and bright lustrous faces. It might look like a "fragment", but if you look closely with a loupe you'll see that it's nearly a complete "floater" as it is doubly-terminated and crystallized on every side! It's REALLY hard to illustrate this in the photos, but aside from a few thin contacted edges on each side of the prism, the piece is in really good condition. A MUST HAVE for any fan of thumbnails, pegmatite crystals or minerals from this former Soviet Union republic. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12959). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
