Item Description
Hambergite is a relatively uncommon beryllium borate species, most often found pegmatite environments. Most of the Hambergite crystals you'll find from the Himalaya Mine are loose singles, and while this piece is a single crystal, it's this piece is a relatively large doubly-terminated "floater". These are unquestionably among the best Hambergites from any US locality, and have a distinct habit and style. This one though, is unusual even by Himalaya standards as it has as strange "boomerang" shape. There is slight surface etching and the crystal has a soft ivory color. I suspect it is twinned as well. No Himalaya Mine collection is complete without one of these rare and elusive treasures. Priced at $2,500 in our inventory. From the collection of Bill Larson of Fallbrook, California. Bill is a well-known gem and mineral dealer as well as a miner and collector. Bill is synonymous with minerals of San Diego County, and owned and operated famous mines such as the Stewart Lithia, the Tourmaline Queen, the Pala Chief and the Himalaya, producing some of the most iconic mineral specimens to come out of the area during the 1970s-1980s.
