Item Description

The deposit atop a small mountain north of Reno, Hallelujah Junction, is world famous for the BEST scepter smoky quartz in the USA, and the best specimens from here are competitive with any worldwide location for quartz as well. It is hard work, slow in the past without heavy equipment. These crazy guys who own this deposit now have purchased and moved up the mountain some big heavy earthmovers that can literally peel back the overburden and expose a nice seam of possible pockets to work in, so every visitor gets a chance to dig in unexplored new earth, as they extend the deposit workings out. THIS IS SOMEWHERE WHERE YOU ARE GUARANTEED TO FIND SOMETHING! It is there. You just have to work for it. Often you can be part of opening a pocket of real value (specimens from this mine have sold for well in excess of $100,000 in the past years, with fine large scepter crystal pieces easily fetching 5 figures). Several of us on the team here at Arkenstone have been to dig, and we can tell you it is worth it. This is a surface pit dig, easy to access; and a one hour drive from Reno airport in Nevada. This is one of the only mineral sites in the world where you are GUARANTEED to find something awesome! Plus, you get to enjoy Paul Geffner's quirky sense of humor...sorry to say.

This is a special donation to support the Mineralogical Record, and the auction winner will get to keep $2500 worth of crystals courtesy of mine owner/partners Paul Geffner, Rick Kennedy, and friends! Anything else you find can be purchased at a fair discount from the retail value they can get for it themselves (as this is a commercial mine for specimens). This is easy access - just fly in to Reno, and you can stay at a nice Casino-Hotel there and drive back and forth to the mine from town in about an hour. Super easy access to just fly in, dig the next day, and fly home after a day at the mine. Tools will be provided by the owners but you should bring gloves, work boots or strong shoes, and a hat. This trip is for 2-4 people or a family.

NOTE: trip scheduling is subject to mutual agreement and availability over the next year. Winners are responsible for their own travel costs.

The specimens pictured here are from the mining locality, but the items are not included in this auction item.
