Item Description

A gorgeous, showy three-dimensional display specimen of Halite from Polkowice (Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mine) in Poland. The style and unique coloring of the piece make it a very attractive and rarely seen specimen of what is essentially crystallized table salt. This small cabinet piece is composed of several beautiful stepped / skeletal / "hoppered" groups of cubic Halite, which would ordinarily be white in color, but due to the inclusions of organic materials (possibly Bitumen / Petroleum) creating a stark black hue, and a fantastic contrast of light and dark colors within the specimen. The quality is superb, as not only are the crystals well-formed and highly aesthetic, but they are also rather lustrous. I can't find any major damage of note, only a small point of attachment on the base where the piece was separated from the pocket wall. A fantastic piece of this unique and eye-catching material.
