This item is part of a special benefit auction for the Rice Museum of Rocks & Minerals (ricenorthwestmuseum.org). Items are either deaccessions from the museum's collection or were donated by generous supporters listed below.

This is an important example of the kinds of classic specimens produced from the famous Polish halite mines, that used to provide for the wealth of kings and princes in the old days. It is in miraculously good condition, carefully collected and preserved. Examples of this museum-size are rare, uncommon, and usually quite expensive. This features crystals to 3 cm, including phantoms, that are unusually sharp and isolated up on 'stalks' and clusters away from the matrix. Donated by Stuart Wilensky to the Museum's benefit. This specimen is illustrated in the definitive article on the locations of the famous Polish halite mines, in Mineralogical Record, March 2014 (see attached photo). Note that this specimen is fragile and we will work with you to arrange hand delivery, even if it means waiting some time. Shipment comes with a minimal risk of damage in shipment, although we will do our best.
