Item Description
The more contemporary Halite specimens from the Salton Sea in Imperial County, California are often somewhat opaque, but this piece features notably GEMMY crystals that are a better quality than most I've seen from the locality. This piece hosts several sharp, well-formed, semi-lustrous, colorless cubes of Halite measuring up to 2.4 cm on a bit of matrix, forming a very attractive and aesthetic display piece. No damage on the front/display side, and very showy as you can see from the video. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016) with a label that states it was collected between 1979-1982 and was collected prior to flooding at the locality. David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
