Item Description

Please note: This specimen came with a handwritten label stating it was Epsomite from Stassfurt, but Epsomite is fibrous, and nothing on this piece resembles Epsomite in my mind. I believe it's actually a Halite from Stassfurt featuring colorless gemmy cubes measuring up to 5 mm sitting on white blocky crystals of Leonite (?). It's not common to find matrix specimens of Halite from this locality, and if you collect German minerals it's a great miniature to add to your collection. If any German mineral experts have a bit more insight as to the identity of this piece, please reach out and let us know. Ex Kay Robertson Collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
