Item Description
Hagemannite is ULTRA RARE, known ONLY from the famous Cryolite Deposit at Ivigtut, Greenland. It is a mixture of impure thomsenolite with ralstonite and geothite. Thomsenolite and ralstonite are rare, complex halides and Ivigtut is the Type Locality for both species. This is an OUTSTANDING, VERY FINE, OLD-TIMER for these RARE halide species and locality. The piece is essentially massive thomsenolite with a RICH, THICK crust of hagemannite. Probably mined around 1900. Ex Mullane Collection and comes with old Wards labels (one attached to the back of the piece). Value?? I will say that you can trim the specimen in half and have two equally valuable halves, come to think of it...the only reason I haven't done so from the beginning is the potential import of the piece being from the namesake's collection (i wonder if he also did the anlytical work, making this possible cotype?). A thinlabel with the piece, also ancient, indicates this is from his collection.
