Item Description

Cavnic is one of the great historic mining districts of Europe, with records dating back to 1336. This is a striking and aesthetic combination specimen. A sharply terminated and doubly terminated, 5.4 cm gypsum crystal is beautifully centered with smaller crystals on the tan, sugary, dolomite rhomb crust. The water-clear crystals have waxy luster and frosted terminations. The V-twin crystal at the top is a super accent. The light bruising to the terminations is only a modest detraction to this very attractive combination piece. The gypsum looks like classic Naica, but the matrix is wrong. This fine piece is from modern production. Ex Schlichter Collection.
