Gyrolite and Okenite (Currier Coll.)

A large display-sized cabinet specimen of this extraordinarily rare and weird species, Gyrolite - this is an early Indian mineral to come out through the King of Indian minerals himself, the late great Rock Currier, who named his business after the Jewel Tunnel of India. This is a huge example of the species, rarely seen in such form. Normally it occurs as small spheres intermixed with other zeolites, and seldom as a specimen in its own right. This is a museum-sized piece and it is in perfect condition. From the collection number, we know this was acquired early on in Rock's own travels in India, likely in the early 1980s. He kept an extensive personal collection of Indian minerals, most sourced directly himself - so, for context, this is a cabinet-sized Indian piece from the man who was among the most discriminating but also had the most access at the time, and things like this simply do not come out today. Donated in honor of Rock's memory to the Symposium Auction by his friends, this is valued $2500-4500 for sheer size, perfection, and elegance as a sculptural item when most of them are just "balls on a rock" by comparison. You simply cannot obtain something like this on the market today.
