Item Description

Mineral specimens of ANY species are RARE from this obscure locality on the bluffs of the Potomac River down river from Washington, D. C. This surreal, 4-sided, floater gypsum specimen looks like a lionfish! Radiating, lustrous, translucent, greenish-gray, gypsum plates comprise all five sides of this dramatic sculptural piece. Light green glauconite is infused-in and partially coats the gypsum blades. Complete all-around and essentially pristine, with only a couple of broken out-of-sight blades at the base on one end. Amazing, for such a soft mineral! A fantastic, possibly unique 360-degree specimen. Self-collected by Robert Hazen and John Nance in August, 2013. A MUST for the locality or species collector.
