Item Description

A really attractive display quality specimen of Gypsum that was labeled as coming from "Texas", so that really doesn't narrow it down much as Texas would be the 39th largest country in the world (out of 197) if it were an independent nation. With that said, this piece is filled with attractive "roses" of Selenite, the largest measuring 1.3 cm across, and is crystallized on all sides, making it a complete "floater". The color ranges from a soft golden-yellow hue in the center to more of a reddish-brown on the edges, caused by what is most likely iron oxide content. Very attractive for what it is, and since Texas is not necessarily known for its mineral specimens, it's a lovely novelty specimen that would make a nice addition to any collection. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#549). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
