Gypsum (var: Selenite) ("roses") (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

Although I can't find a listing for any Selenite "roses" from Miles, I trust the information on the label, and it was more than likely not found at a specific dig or claim, but possibly at a roadcut or in somebody's yard. For reference, this city is located just northeast of San Angelo in west central Texas. With that said, this is a very attractive and good quality specimen featuring dozens of sharp, well-formed, translucent, compressed blades of Gypsum (var: Selenite) which are intergrown to form several beautiful "roses" creating a lovely group. The piece is complete all the way around (I would go far enough to call it a complete "floater") with only a little edge wear here and there. The largest individual "rose" measures 3.6 cm across. If you collect US minerals or specifically minerals of Texas, this is a rare opportunity to pick up something from an obscure locality to fill a spot in your collection.
