Item Description

Several decades ago, the Camp Bird Mine produced some very choice quality Gypsum (Selenite) specimens. Ordinarily, Gypsum isn't something that is of high interest to most collectors, but the pieces from certain San Juan localities such as the Sunnyside Mine and Camp Bird Mine are HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER by Colorado collectors. This piece is certainly one of the best I've seen from this famous old locality in terms of size and quality. I honestly mistook it for a crystal from Naica, that's how good it is. The piece is a very sharp, well-formed, gemmy to WATER CLEAR, colorless, group of crystals with minor attached matrix. The piece is actually doubly-terminated, though it's not fully crystallized on the base. There are a few slight bruises, so it's not completely damage free, but keep in mind that Gypsum is a very soft mineral, so virtually every specimen from this locality has at least minor imperfections. What really matters here is that this is really a great Gypsum specimen from the Camp Bird, and if you collect Colorado minerals you need one of these for your collection, as they are exceptionally rare to find on the market. Valued between $700-$900 or possibly higher depending upon the buyer.
