Item Description
This specimen came out in the mid to late 2000s and is one of the best examples of GEM QUALITY Gypsum (var: Selenite) that we've had to offer from any Chinese locality, both in terms of quality and overall aesthetics. The piece hosts several WATER-CLEAR, completely colorless, "sword"-shaped prismatic crystals of Gypsum measuring up to 5.3 cm long, sculpturally sitting on a bit of contrasting underlying matrix to create a showy and desirable display specimen. Because Gypsum is such a soft mineral, most crystals will often have minor roughness / bruising, and there are a few imperfections on this piece as you can see, but it's still overwhelmingly in fine condition and it displays wonderfully as you can see. Specimens of this upper echelon in terms of transparency, sharpness and luster are not easy to find from anywhere, but the Chinese specimens seem to have dried up, and I haven't seen much of this calibre available on the market in several years now. The piece was priced at $2,400 in our inventory.
