Item Description

It's not too often that one has the opportunity to pick up a specimen that was found near a fast food restaurant location. This piece comes with a label that specifically states it was collected by Don Knowles in the 1970s near a McDonald's restaurant in downtown Colorado Springs. The piece is a complete "floater" featuring many sharp, well-formed, compressed "discs" of Gypsum (var: Selenite) of a soft silvery-beige hue. Individual crystals measure up to 2.3 cm across. When backlit, you can see that the crystals are quite gemmy, but the most interesting aspect is that you can see some attractive internal "phantoms". So not only does this piece have an interesting / unique locality, it's actually good quality and very eye-catching to boot! From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California. You can read Gary's obituary here https://www.dcourier.com/news/2019/apr/27/obituary-gary-richard-weaver/
