Item Description
A striking, colorful and exotic looking large matrix gypsum specimen from this obscure locality. Textbook, terminated, water-clear gypsum crystals, to 4.5 cm, are aesthetically clustered on this dramatic piece. Some of the blades have a surreal burnt-orange band. The back blades are attached to the orange iron oxide-tinted gypsum (alabaster) matrix, which causes the striking orange color. It looks like classic gypsum from the famous mines at Naica, Mexico, but it's not! Mineral specimens from this former underground gypsum mine (Alabastine Mine), now a large storage facility, are rare and are seldom available. A very aesthetic, excellent and rare large specimen from the Robert Nowakowski Collection # 19. valued 500-750
