Item Description

A classic specimen of the famous Gypsum crystals from Naica. This arguably has to be the most significant Gypsum locality in the world as the largest crystal recorded so far measures 12 meters (39 feet) in length, 4 m (13 ft) in diameter and 55 tons in weight! Some of these gigantic crystals have taken at least 500,000 years to form! With that said, not only are the largest Gypsum crystals found here, but some of the FINEST quality crystals have come from Naica. This piece features a pair of GEM QUALITY / WATER CLEAR, colorless, very sharp, textbook monoclinic crystals of Gypsum aesthetically sitting on matrix. The largest crystal measures 5.7 cm long and is doubly-terminated. The piece so showy and eye-catching that I couldn't imagine a better overall specimen for the size. The back of the smaller crystal is contacted, but you can't really see it from the front, otherwise is piece is in superb condition! From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (Collection #4804).
